Live with Compassion

(2 Corinthians 1:3-4) Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us all in our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.

Compassion Filters

  • You weren’t __________________.

(1 Corinthians 13:1) If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.

  • We don’t understand ________________.

(Luke 7:39) When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is—that she is a sinner.”

  • We don’t know what to do _______________.

(Ecclesiastes 3:1-13) For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:  a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;…He has made everything beautiful in its time.

  • We don’t have ________________________.

(1 John 4:8) Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.

How to Live with Compassion

  1. Practice compassion in ________________.

(1 John 3:18 LB) Let us stop just saying we love people; let us really love them and show it by our actions.

2. Step into _____________________.

(Romans 12:15) Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.

3. Don’t carry the burden ________________.

(Psalm 55:22 TPT) So here’s what I’ve learned through it all: Leave all your cares and anxieties at the feet of the Lord, and measureless grace will strengthen you.

4. Accept God’s _____________________.

(Psalm 103:10-13) He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him.
