DAVID Part 7:

Leaving a Legacy

(Psalm 90:12) Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

(1 Chronicles 28:9 NLT) “And Solomon, my son, learn to know the God of your ancestors intimately. Worship and serve him with your whole heart and a willing mind. For the Lord sees every heart and knows every plan and thought. If you seek him, you will find him. But if you forsake him, he will reject you forever.”

Legacy:

What _____________ when we’re ________.

(Psalm 112:6) Those who are righteous will be remembered forever.

Legacy:

What _____________ when we’re ________.

(Hebrews 6:10) God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.

(2 Timothy 2:2) And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.

You’re not just in a ________,

you’re in a ________.

A Legacy Life

  1. Legacy people have an _________________.

(1 Kings 2:1-3 NLT) As the time of King David’s death approached, he gave this charge to his son Solomon: “I am going where everyone on earth must someday go. Take courage and be a man. Observe the requirements of the Lord your God, and follow all his ways. Keep the decrees, commands, regulations, and laws written in the Law of Moses so that you will be successful in all you do and wherever you go.

They _________________ through

the lens of ____________.

(John 4:35) I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.

(2 Corinthians 4:18 NLT) So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.

2. Legacy people understand ____________.

(1 Chronicles 29:1-3) Then King David turned to the entire assembly and said, “My son Solomon, whom God has clearly chosen as the next king of Israel, is still young and inexperienced. The work ahead of him is enormous, for the Temple he will build is not for mere mortals—it is for the Lord God himself!..And now, because of my devotion to the Temple of my God, I am giving all of my own private treasures of gold and silver to help in the construction.

They choose to do ___________________

so they can do ____________________.

(Matthew 6:19-20) Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.

3. Legacy people sense an ____________.

(1 Chronicles 28:20 LB) Then he continued, “Be strong and courageous and get to work. Don’t be frightened by the size of the task, for the Lord my God is with you; he will not forsake you. He will see to it that everything is finished correctly.

(2 Timothy 4:1-2 Ph) I urge you, Timothy, as we live in the sight of God and of Christ Jesus (whose coming in power will judge the living and the dead), to preach the Word of God. Never lose your sense of urgency, in season or out of season.

Your legacy doesn’t start ________________,

it starts ________________.

(Acts 13:36) Now when David had served God’s purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep.
