My wife, who was my girlfriend at the time, and I were looking for a church to go to and we started going to Discovery Church. When you come to Discovery Church, say ‘hi.’ People at Discovery Church are incredibly welcoming and are willing to talk. It’s easy to get to know people. I have seen God bring people here that are done with church. They come and listen to the pastors, who deliver powerful, God-centered sermons with love. It helps bring people back to God. So often, church isn’t about God’s love but about the rule, but here it’s about love.

I mainly do lighting for production on Sundays, but I do a little bit of everything else. My professional background before COVID was that I was a touring lighting technician. I toured for Santana, did shows for Fortune 500 companies, and worked for Disney five years on World of Color. I got started doing lighting for the church I grew up in and then did it in high school. I have a degree in theater design and production, specializing in lighting, but you don’t have to be a professional lighting person to be on the production team. We’ll train you. It’s a great way to get connected with people at the church. You get so much out of it and it’s a whole new experience with God. Letting Him work through you to help other people experience Him is super powerful.

Discovery Church is really big into small groups which is awesome. My wife and I are involved in a couples small group and I did a men’s games group in the past. We’ve made some great friends in them and we are still going to the couples one. It’s an intimate environment that you get to know people that you normally wouldn’t get to talk to. It’s been really powerful for us getting into a marriage group and seeing what other couples had gone through and getting advice.

In 2022, I’m looking forward to see where this church goes. It’s growing so fast and there’s so many changes going on. I want to see what happens and how God moves through Discovery. I think it’s going to be really exciting.
